The Changing Culture of Hollywood & America - RegalCon 2017 - June 24, 2017
We all have a story to tell, and Hollywood is beginning to showcase more diverse images and stories by and about people of color. Media and entertainment shape the values and culture of society, and Impact Media asserts that the platforms are instrumental in impacting social change in America and abroad. Forgiveness, a short film written and directed by Satie Gossett, son of Louis Gossett Jr., will be screened and discussed. It’s a story about a young man who enters an essay contest and seeks an apology from the President of the United States for the slavery of African Americans. The culture of America and Hollywood are rapidly changing, and it is unescapable. Race relations, diversity, and inclusion can be elusive and challenging topics to discuss and understand. In this session, we will talk to legendary actors, directors, storytellers, and educators to begin to unravel these topics in an enlightening and entertaining manner using research and entertainment as mediums for understanding, healing, and activism.

Using the Impact Media Survey (www.impact-enteprises.org) and the UCLA Hollywood Diversity Report (http://www.bunchecenter.ucla.edu/index.php/2017/02/new-2017-hollywood-diversity-report) as a backdrop, the panelists will have a solutions focused conversation about the changing culture of Hollywood and America, and how we can work together to create a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable industry and society using media and entertainment as a platform for change.
